Main Distribution Frames
In telephony, a main distribution frame (MDF or main frame) is a signal distribution frame for connecting equipment (inside plant) to cables and subscriber carrier equipment (outside plant). The MDF is a termination point within the local telephone exchange where exchange equipment and terminations of local loops are connected by jumper wires at the MDF. All cable copper pairs supplying services through user telephone lines are terminated at the MDF and distributed through the MDF to equipment within the local exchange e.g. repeaters and DSLAM. Cables to intermediate distribution frames terminate at the MDF. Trunk cables may terminate on the same MDF or on a separate trunk main distribution frame (TMDF).

Computer cabinets
Computer cabinets are fitted with doors and side panels (which may or may not be removable). Cabinets enclose a rack, which is a frame that provides a means for mounting electronic equipment. Cabinets come in a variety of styles, colors, and many contain baffles, fans, and other features.The terms rack and cabinet are often used interchangeably, which is incorrect. The rack refers specifically to the frame that provides a means for mounting electronic equipment, while a cabinet is fitted with doors and side panels.

A Distribution Point (DP) is the termination box where telephone cables are connected. This could be British Telecoms or another network companies external feed to an internal access point within a building where telephone lines to customers within the building are fed from. It is also used to describe a telegraph pole when used for external connections to customer’s premises. It can also be a service link for internal telephone cables that are required for the integration of handsets where a telephone system is being provided.

Voice Cabling
Voice cabling is the wiring of a building which enables basic telecommunications systems including land-based phone lines, modems, or analog lines. These copper or fibre cables carry data across long distances and are increasingly designed to transmit greater amounts of data at higher speeds.

CW1308 & CW1128
CW1308 is twisted pair, the official standard is BT reference number CW1308. It is typically manufactured from 0.50mm solid tinned copper and each of the pairs of wires is colour coded and loosely twisted together. CW1308 cable is used for and works well for voice and ADSL as its twisted pair construction provides some resistance to interference. CW1308 is an economical way to ensure a reliable connection.
CW1128 external telephone cables are suitable for installation outdoors where an armoured cable is not necessary. They offer a light-weight, compact, tough solution for cables that will have to endure a variety of weather conditions, from rain and snow to bright sunlight. CW1128 is ideal for clipping around the outside of buildings or running through ducting. The outer sheath is made from tough, durable Polyethylene which is also UV and sunlight resistant. The pairs are bedded in Petroleum Jelly to protect against the ingress of moisture.

VoIP is a technology that allows telephone calls to be made over computer networks like the Internet. VoIP converts analog voice signals into digital data packets and supports real-time, two-way transmission of conversations using Internet Protocol (IP). VoIP calls can be made on the Internet using a VoIP service provider and standard computer audio systems. Alternatively, some service providers support VoIP through ordinary telephones that use special adapters to connect to a home computer network.

Multi pairs
Multi-pair phone and data wire uses an industry-standard colour code to distinguish one pair from the others, and to identify the wires within a pair. Each wire usually has a base colour and a contrasting stripe, and the other wire in the pair has the opposite colours.

The backbone cabling system provides interconnections between telecommunications rooms, equipment rooms, main terminal space, and entrance facilities. It includes backbone cables, intermediate and main cross-connects, mechanical terminations, and patch cords or jumpers used for backbone-to-backbone cross-connections. The backbone also extends between buildings in a campus environment.

A telephone extension is an internal telephone line attached to a Private branch exchange (PBX) or Centrex system. The PBX allows multiple lines inside the office to connect without each phone requiring a separate outside line. CNC can offer a solution by installing an extension or extensions to where you specify.

IDC connections
IDC connectors are connector devices used to connect conductors and wires and strip insulation, or the protective layer surrounding a wire or wires, thereby eliminating the need to strip the wire before making a connection. IDC connectors are categorized by number of rows, pins and pin spacing in millimeters.

CTI (computer-telephony integration) is the use of computers to manage telephone calls. The term is predominantly used to describe desktop-based interaction for helping users be more efficient, though it can also refer to server-based functionality such as automatic call routing. CTI applications provide the ability to authenticate callers, recognize a voice either for authentication or for message forwarding, match the number of a caller with a customer record and display it for reference when talking to the caller, manage voice or video conferences, collect and display pending live calls or messages that have been left by callers, receive fax messages and route them to appropriate fax machines and for outbound calling such as telemarketing.
